Google Phone? I still say yes it will happen.

Speculation is running wild across the Internet about Google coming out with their own G-Phone. Some say it is in line with what they are doing, others say it would be against their better judgement. As of right now the only FACTUAL information we have is from the vice president of engineering for Android at Google who stated, “We are not making hardware. We’re enabling other people to build hardware.” Of course that can be looked at many different ways depending on how you want to see it. With such a blunt statement though, there should not be any more questions. Except for the obvious ones…

Like, would it even be possible for Google to make a phone? Well I am glad you asked! As I stated before, I feel Google will indeed not only make a phone, but introduce us to a purely VoIP solution.

So what would Google need in order to accomplish a true Gphone? (First they need a real name for it.. Gphone sounds either too imitation iPhone, or imitation gansta. As of today I officially “non-officially” am calling it the GGG -Google Gizmo Gadget – triple G sounds good. If I get to speculate I might as well name it too. Triple G on a 4G network.) Let’s see, a good operating system, good hardware and of course a good network. Rumor mill is speculating that AT&T would be ripe for being the carrier since they offer data only plans. Apparently people seem to forget Google and AT&T not having the best history together anymore. But as the saying goes, “get on the train or get run over.” Personally I see Sprint as one to watch during this time. Clearwire and Sprint have a few tricks up their sleeves still.

But what about phone hardware? HTC has been behind Android from the beginning and if you have seen the HD2 for Windows Mobile, you will agree that they know a bit about impressive looking hardware. But will Google look to them again for the Triple G? Well it depends on how much Motorola can whisper into Google’s ears. Those two (HTC and Motorola) are the two top choices that I suspect Google to pick from.
