Filtering Through the Buzz

Google has introduced Google Buzz and already the bad has started to outweigh the good. With all of the great aggregating that it does, it still fills up your inbox with message you may not want to read at the moment. This is where a good filter would come in handy. Luckly Gmail comes equipped with one. To setup your Gmail filter to move the Buzz updates away from your more important email, simply follow the supplied instructions.

First things first, once you open up Gmail you click the “settings” link in the upper right hand corner.
From there you select “Filters”
Down at the bottom of the colored box you should see “Create a new filter” – click it
Now, in the Subject: section type “Buzz:” (no quotes needed) then click “Next Step”
This is where your personal preference comes into play:
I assume you would like it to skip your inbox, so check that square
You can also check “Mark as read” if you want (I chose not to personally)
You can either choose to apply a label (GBuzz is what I created for obvious reasons), or
you can delete it if you plan on simply looking at the Buzz by going into the Buzz label.
Then click “Create Filter” and you are all setup.

I choose to create the separate label and I use that to see what information is directly sent to me instead of looking through the information that I may find interesting and have it side track me from seeing a reply that I might have been waiting on. No matter which way you choose, I think the filter is the best way to keep Buzz useful and not have it become another mailbox filling item. Have fun Buzzing!
