The Apple Google War… Verizon is Winning
We have fans on both sides of the fence and both sides will tell you why their team is better. With me being a Google fan I can quickly tell you the Pro’s of Android phones. With me being a tech fan I can also tell you the Pro’s of the iPhone. With me being a Sprint customer I can tell you that Verizon is looking amazing this year! Even though Sprint had TWO Android phones first (and T-Mobile with an assortment before them as well), Verizon pulled out Motorola’s flagship device and made “Droid” a household name. Android phones were suddenly in the hands of people I never would have imagined dropping their Blackberry’s and Treo’s for.
Palm Nearing the End of an Era? A Google Bailout?
Since the beginning of time (if time started in 1996) Palm had been making PDA’s. They then converted those PDA’s into phones with the Handspring Treo line (Handspring came from Palm and eventually was pulled back into), and gradually moved up to the WebOS Pre’s and Pixi’s that are out now. They were creative, and the business mans friend. Everywhere you looked you saw a Treo. The phone was even spotted on CSI. But now with their stock dropping 19% percent, those CSI investigators are looking for a body. People are saying it is too late of Palm to do anything to salvage their business and that they should be looking to sell. The question of course becomes, who would want to buy them? Well first lets look at what they have. With WebOS they have arguably the smoothest operating system placed on mobile phones. They have filed patents that could be valuable for whoever might look to aquire them.

Google Managers Convicted in Italian Court
As you all know, I am heavily Google biased, but I am also “if it’s wrong, it’s wrong” and wont let my feelings get in the way. So when I hear a story like this I try my best to see both sides of the argument and give an informed non-biased opinion. Here is the quick run down… Milan Judge Oscar Magi ruled this morning that two Google managers and a former chief financial officer!!!! were guilty of privacy violations. Now before everyone jumps on the “it’s all Buzz’s fault”, or “Google knows too much about us and it had to happen eventually”, let me get to the reason of the court case.
Filtering Through the Buzz
Google has introduced Google Buzz and already the bad has started to outweigh the good. With all of the great aggregating that it does, it still fills up your inbox with message you may not want to read at the moment. This is where a good filter would come in handy. Luckly Gmail comes equipped with one. To setup your Gmail filter to move the Buzz updates away from your more important email, simply follow the supplied instructions.
Google announces Google Buzz
Google introduces Google Buzz that works with your Gmail. So now you “auto-follow” the people you normally communicate with in Gmail. It supports both public and private sharing, integrates with your inbox, and only shows you “just the good stuff.” So instead of having 5,000 updates show up, it only shows you the items you care to see. It seems to be a handy tool that, if you are a Gmail user and a social networker, will make life a lot more interesting. They have also created a mobile version as well. Check your Gmail 2pm EST 11am PST.

Apple’s Attempt at Changing the World
So, the iPad has been announced and the reception has been mixed. A larger iPod that doesn’t have a camera, can’t be used as a phone, and doesn’t run Flash programs. So does that make it a waste of time? No hardware keyboard, no interchangeable battery, and – as of now at least – only runs iPhone/iPod apps. It would seem as if Apple is confident in their app store and iTunes integration to let that stand on it’s own. So what does the iPod really bring us? It brings us what the tech world loves almost as much as a new device… it brings controversy. The iPad doesn’t run Flash…then again, neither does the iPod, iPhone, most Windows Mobile devices, Blackberries and so forth… so big deal?!

Apple and Google and Microsoft, Oh My!
The gauntlets have been thrown and the challenge has been issued. But just what is it that is at stake? In the cell phone market there is clearly one product that has a huge lead. The iPhone is the reigning champion, but it is widely believed that Android phones will close the gap quickly. Personally I feel the iPhone has a strong chance if two things happen and happen quickly. They need to lose the AT&T exclusive, and they need a very strong update in their next version. Developing issues and Google issues aside, if given the chance, more people would own an iPhone just because of the name iPhone. The main reason they don’t right now is because of the name AT&T.
